AUCKLAND COACHES CONFERENCE 2022
In early September, the ARA hosted the Auckland Coaches Conference. This was a great event which saw around 30 coaches from all over the Auckland region come together and listen to workshops from the following individuals. Coaches were split into groups throughout the workshops where they shared thoughts and perspectives on topics that are very pressing in our sport in both Auckland and the country as a whole.
It was fantastic to see such a large number of coaches coming together and engaging in such a positive manner. Coaches also enjoyed a free lunch and bar tab to finish the day.
Sara Richardson (HPSNZ Lead Nutritionist) discussed how to identify red flags in athletes’ nutrition and wellbeing, and how coaches can better support them when needed. Sara also touched on how to support lightweights and coxswains who are struggling to maintain weight.
Simone Spencer (Aktive – Auckland Sport & Rec Manager, Sport) discussed “Women & Girls in Sport”.
Sam Bosworth (Olympic Gold Medalist Coxswain) discussed “How to coach coxswains” and conduct a Q&A.
Ian Bright (Takapuna Grammar Head Coach & NZ U21 Lead Coach) discussed rigging and gearing boats/oars for crews from novice to Elite.
